The Church of Silence in Chile: An Urgent Matter for Americans, written by The Chilean TFP in February of 1976. This book was written in response to the growing Marxist Chilean clergy that supported Communism during this time.

Various South American governments, rather than lose courage because of the widespread agitation of the “Marxist priests” and Communist‒sympathizing Bishops, had moved forward in their determination to resist the Communist menace.

With The Church of Silence in Chile in its English translation, Americans are be able to clearly see the full story behind this South American development. Reading The Church of Silence in Chile, Americans will sense something of the noble struggle not of a third-rate interest group of a South American country that represents nothing of importance to Americans, but rather, much to the contrary, that of an organization of youthful idealists, who, viewing the crisis of their country with a vision that is fundamentally universal, have given rise to a debate that is of central importance to the entire world, and which has taken place in a country whose political struggle has come to represent a “parable” in international circles.

During the first days of its publication, the book was attacked, yet none of these attacks against The Church of Silence in Chile were successful in quelling the great interest of the Chilean people in it since it was first published. From June 1976 to July 1977, The Church of Silence in Chile went through four editions, each one being sold out and becoming the bestselling book in Chile at that time.
